"Hope" is when you have a desire for a certain thing to happen

Brain:So where are you working now ,Terry

Terry:Oh,I'm still at the bank.Idon't like it ,though

Brain:That's too bad. Why not?

Terry:Well, it's boring, and it doesn't pay very well.

Brain:I know what you mean .I don't like my job either.I wish I could find a better job .

Terry:Actually, I don't want to work at all anymore. I wish I had a lot of money so I could retire now.

Brain:Hmm, how old are you, Terry?

Terry: Uh, twenty-six.

means something which is possible and probable
Wish
means something which is not likely to happen or something which is impossible.
