Well,I have given you the rule.Just check the beginning of this subject

Concerning the use of were and not was.I've already answered this question

and I don't mind to answer it again.We have used were instead of was because

it's an unreal situation.Do you remember the lesson of conditional type 2 in real situations?

For example when you say: If I were you,I wouldn't go there

Could you be someonelse? Impossible,of course.This is an unreal situation.So, we use were instead of was

It's the same thing with wish because you wish for something that can never happen at that moment
