Because that person imagines something that could never happen at that moment

exactly like the fact that you say: I wish I were a boy.Could you be a boy?

Your question should have been asked this way: Why is the first sentence an unreal situation?

This lesson concerns stress in words ending in the suffix ic

Rule: In the words that end by the suffix "ic " the stress mark is put on the syllable before

the syllable that contains the suffix ic.For example,let's take the word mathematics

This word contains four syllables: ma the ma tics

The syllable that contains the suffix" ic " is tics.So,the syllable which is before it is ma which should be

stressed.So, we put the stress mark on the syllable " ma " and it would be like this mathe'matics
