AH 58 (N/A): Mother of the believers Ayesha bint Abu Baker-peace be upon her-dies. He was Mohammed's-peace be upon her-favorite wife, in fact he died in her house


AH 1307 (1890 AD): Cleric Hasaneen Mahmood Makhloof, Mufti of Egypt is born


AH 1390 (1961 AD): Al-Hassan II becomes King of Morocco after the death of his father, Mohammed VI

17th of Ramadan



AH 2 (624 AD): Battle of Bader is won by Muslims, named Yom Al-Furqan in the holy Quran. The first battle in Islamic history was won by Muslims despite the number of their army being one third of their adversaries


AH 1212 (1798 AD): The French government signals the military campaign against Egypt, led by Napoleon Bonaparte


AH 1360 (1941 AD): French philosopher Henry Preston died. Preston worked as a professor in the College De France and received Nobel Prize in literature in 1927. Some of his books were translated into Arabic

AH 18 (624 AD): The great Muslim general Khalid ibn Al-Waleed (The Sword of Allah) died. Al-Waleed is one of the greatest military generals of all time and has proved a tough opponent to both Persian and Byzantine empires, where he managed to defeat many armies with numerically superior armaments and soldiers


AH 1256 (1840 AD): The Ottoman army enters the Syrian city of Halab after expelling the Egyptian army, powered by the London Accord in 1840 that stated the expulsion of Mohammed Ali Pasha's army from Halab and its return to the Ottoman Empire


AH 1426(2005 AD): The UN team commissioned to investigate the assassination of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Hariri charged Syrian ministers for being involved in the crime

AD 1431: French nationalist Jeanne d'Arc was sentenced to death at stake. One of the most prominent icons of the 100-year war between France and England, d'Arc headed a small army, courageously managed to win a battle in against the British forces, and expelled them from Orleans; she accomplished that feat when she was only 13 years old. Thus, she came to be known as La Pucelle d’Orleans (The Virgin of Orleans).


AH 1338 (1920 AD): Egyptian leader Saad Zaghlol travels to London to pursue negotiations with the British secretary of Colonies Lord Milner to specify the nature of their relations. Milner headed a committee a year earlier to investigate the reasons of the 1919 Revolt


AH 1375 (1956 AD): The Tunisian government issues a decree transforming the Zaytona Mosque into a university under the title The Zaytona University; it took off with 5 colleges

AH 1094(1683 AD): The Ottoman army faces a crushing defeat in its second siege of Vienna, 10 Ottomans were killed in the battle


AH 1351(1933 AD): The first volume of Al-Risala magazine is issued; one of the most famous literature magazine in Cairo. It was a weekly publication at the beginning, then became biweekly and continued until 1953


AH 1425(2004 AD): H.H Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan died at the age of 86, 33 of which he ruled the UAE. His death sent massive shockwaves of sorrow in the UAE and people mourned him for many days to come

AH 40 (661 AD): Ali ibn Abi Talib, the fourth Rashidi caliph is assassinated by Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam


AH 95 (714 AD): Al-Hajaj ibn Yousuf Al-Thaqafi died. One of the most famous icons of the Umayyad and Islamic history, Al-Thaqafi played a key role in the expansion of the caliphate. Al-Thaqafi was known to be rough with his opponents, and security under his reign was prevalent


AH 1275 (1859 AD): Excavation of the Suez Canal commences. The 162.5 KM long canal took 10 years of excavating by 60,000 Egyptian farmers to complete, and was opened for business in 1869

22nd of Ramadan



AH 273 (886 AD): Cleric Ibn-Majah was born. Ibn-Majah devoted 15 years of his life to the pursuit of education and meeting polymaths, after which he settled to record his findings. Unfortunately, most of his work was lost, and the only writing that survived was 'Sunan Ibn-Majah'; the book was highly esteemed among high level scholars of that time


AH 1375 (1956 AD): Libya makes effective the Israeli Boycott decree and establishes the boycott office, because of the huge public pressure


AH 1384 (1965 AD): England Prime Minister Winston Churchill died at the age of 90. Considered one of the best prime ministers England ever had, Churchill led his country to victory in the WW2, which made the Queen of England knight him. Churchill won a Nobel Prize in literature

23rd of Ramadan



AH 40 (661 AD): Ahmed Ibn Tolun founder of the Tuloni state was born. Ibn Tulon governed Egypt and succeeded in establishing a strong estate that stretched to Hijaz and Bilad Al-Sham. His mosque in Cairo remains a testament to the prosperity Ibn Tulon's estate reached


AH 1371 (1911 AD): The Turkish government allows the offspring of Ottoman clan to enter the country, excluding the Ottoman princes. Previously, Turkey abolished the Ottoman caliphate in 1923 and expelled the Ottoman clan that governed it for 963 years


AH 1374 (1955 AD): Signing of the Warsaw Accord that comprised the USSR and the eastern fronts, as a direct response to U.S signing the NATO Accord with its European allies
