I think they r both correct but the meaning differs.
The first sentence means that they have not stopped studying for 2 years . I mean the study was continuous.
The second one may mean they have studied for 2 years but there might have been breaks during their study.

In fact both of the two sentences are grammatically correct, we can use the present perfect continous to put more emphasis on the continuity of the activity
