The Prohibition of Bribery

Taking a bribe is one way of consuming someone else's wealth wrongfully. A bribe refers to any kind of property which is offered to a judge or public servant in order to obtain a decision in favor of oneself or against a rival, to expedite one's own affair, or to delay that of one's competition, and so on.

Islam has prohibited the Muslim to approach the officials of a government or their subordinates for the purpose of offering them a bribe; it has prohibited the latter to accept it; and it has prohibited that any third person should arrange matters between the givers and the takers of the bribe. Allah Ta'ala says: And do not consume your property among yourselves wrongfully, nor seek access to judges by means of it in order that you may sinfully consume a portion of peoples' wealth, while you know (what you do). (2:188)
The Prophet (peace be on him) said, "Allah's curse is on the one who offers the bribe and on the judge who accepts it." (Reported by Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih.)
Thawban said, The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) cursed the one who offers the bribe, the one who receives it, and the one who arranges it. (Reported by Ahmad and al-Hakim.)

If the recipient of the bribe accepts it in order to do injustice, his sin is the greater, while if he intended to do justice, it was his simple duty for which no payment was needed.

The Prophet (peace be on him) sent 'Abdullah bin Rawahah to the Jews to estimate what they owed as taxes on their palm trees. The Jews offered him some money as a gift. He told them, "What you have offered as a bribe is haram and we do not accept it." (Reported by Malik)

It is not surprising that Islam has prohibited bribery and that it is severe against all those who participate in it. The proliferation of bribery in a society leads to corruption and oppression: unjust decisions are made and just ones are blocked, undeserving persons are given chances and deserving ones are passed over, and the spirit of greed permeates the society in place of the spirit of dutifulness.

10Facts about knowing Allah

1. Humans need to worship God, it is the purpose of their creation.

And I created not the Jinn and Mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone). (Qur'an, 51:56)

2. Allah is the same God who revealed Himself to the Biblical Prophets.

Their Messengers said: "What! Can there be a doubt about Allah, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth?" (Qur'an, 14:10)

3. Allah is our Creator Who originated and maintains everything.

Were they created by nothing? Or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the Heavens and the Earth? No, but they have no firm belief. (Qur'an, 52:35-36)

4. Precise proof of Allah is found in the quran.gif, we cannot see Him in this world.

And of knowledge, you (Mankind) have been given only a little. (Qur'an, 17:85)

5. The diverse Universe has been Created by Allah’s Intelligent Design.

How many a sign is there in the heavens and the earth, which they pass by with their faces turned away! (Qur'an, 12:105)

6. Allah’s Laws govern the Universe and all of creation praises Him.

The seven heavens and the Earth and all that is therein glorify Him, and there is not a thing but celebrates His praise, but you do not understand their praise. (Qur'an, 17:44)

7. Humans are born with an in-built, yet corruptible knowledge of Allah.

"Every child is born with an innate disposition (Fitrah), but his parents turn him into a Jew or Christian. It is like when an animal gives birth to normal offspring; have you noticed any (young animal) born branded (mutilated with the mark of its owners) before they are branded?" (Hadith)

8. Humans instinctively turn to Allah in times of need.

And when a calamity touches man, he calls to his Lord, turning repentant to Him. Then, when He grants him a favor from Himself, he forgets that for which he called to Him before, and sets up partners as rivals to Allah. (Qur'an, 39:8)

9. Allah, our Maker, Knows best how we can function properly.

Verily, We have created man out of drops of mixed sexual discharge, in order to try him: so We made him to hear and to see. Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. (Qur'an, 76:2-3)

Should He not know what He created? (Qur'an, 67:14).

10. Allah Guides to Islam who He likes as a blessing.

Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His Good Pleasure to ways of peace and He brings them out of darkness alhamdulilahby His Will into light and guides them to the Straight Way (Islamic Monotheism). (Qur'a n, 5:16)

May Allah reward you for reading inshalah.

Ten Oppressors

Sufyan ath-Thauri (may Allah have mercy on him) said that ten

people are regarded as oppressors:

The person who prays for himself, but forgets his parents and other believers.

The person who does not recite at least a hundred verses of the Holy Quran daily.

The person who leaves the Masjid (mosque) without performing at least two units of Salah.

The person who passes a graveyard without greeting the deceased or praying for them.

The person who enters a city on Friday and leaves without performing the Friday prayer.

The man or woman in whose vicinity a learned person comes and none acquires any religious knowledge from him.

Those two people who love each other for the pleasure of Allah but are unaware of each others names.

The person who is invited by another, but does not accept his invitation (when acceptance does not contradict the Shariah).

The youngster that has no commitments yet does not acquire any religious knowledge or manners.

The person who has eaten to his fill while his neighbor goes hungry.
