Conference on Economic Reform and Global Integration: The Arab Countries’ Priorities

الاهمية:
Background:
This conference is an important event of its kind to take place in the region and globally in providing a venue for comprehensive dialogue amongst key regional decision makers regarding the strategies to implement reform and liberalization of trade policies as a way to promote recovery, growth and development, as the nations in the world strive towards recovery from the global economic crisis. The Conference will focus on achieving developmental goals and provide opportunity to exchange views and knowledge about these key issues. Furthermore, the Conference aims to promote an exchange of views on the expectation of the Arab countries from international organizations on technical assistance support and how to best coordinate efforts with these international bodies on achieving the same.
الأهداف:
Objectives :
The primary objective of this conference is to encourage an open dialogue between the various international organizations as well as individual experts in order to benefit from the presence of all these great minds. Moreover, this conference aims at producing a set of recommendations; which would act as guidelines for future projects and conferences.

Participants:
This conference will include two types of participants:
a. The first being the stakeholders; who will be representatives from several international organizations, such as the WTO, AMF, WB, UN, UNDP, UNCTAD, GCC, Arab League, WIPO, ITC and TI.
b. The second being key decision makers in the region, such as ministers ministries of planning, ministries of trade and commerce and ministries of finance as well as expert economists and governors of central banks.

The relevant meeting documents and a detailed tentative agenda are attached, but it is subject to change after the prep meeting; which will be held on the 7th and 8th of agust, 2011.
