Some people argue that counterfeiting benefits consumers by giving them access to lower price goods .This is a totally mistaken claim.
First, imitations are of poor quality. Second they don’t last long. In addition, fake medicines kill people since they lack active ingredients .The WHO statistics prove that most medicines used by third world populations are fake.
Furthermore, piracy kills creativity and innovation; instead of improving a product counterfeiters would just copy it. Internauts are swapping music illegally which causes a great deal of financial losses to the owners.
Besides, counterfeiting gives the country a bad reputation. As a result, consumers would not be confident in its companies.
In conclusion, I may say that counterfeiting is not only illegal but immoral as well. The solution then,is that companies producing genuine trademarks must fight this unethical practice. Moreover, governments should pass stringent laws to punish counterfeiters because they are doing too much harm to the consumer’s health, the environment and the economy of the country.
