THE THIRD TERM EXAMINATION
Part One: Reading Comprehension (15 pts)
Read the text carefully, and then do the activities.
Once upon a time, a cruel monster lived in a deep dense forest, not very far from a small kingdom. He had a horrible rough dark skin and big red terrifying eyes. He was very tall and huge with a fierce look. All the people in the kingdom were terrified by the presence and the power of the monster for evil. No one could fight him at that time.
One day, the King, Arthur said to his brave son Eragon, “If you kill the forest monster, there will be peace in the Kingdom, and I will give you whatever you desire the most”. The prince, Eragon agreed immediately because above all, he was in love with the princess Sofia and wanted to marry her. Sofia had a round face with a white skin and big black lovely eyes. She had long straight black hair which almost touched her feet. Unfortunately, Sofia was the daughter of King Mulligan who was the bitter enemy of King Arthur.
On his father’s promise, Eragon walked towards the monster, carrying his sword and his shield without fear. When he entered the forest, an old ugly woman stopped him and gave him a wand. She said, “If you want to kill the monster, don’t use your sword.” “Take this wand instead, it’s magic.” She added, “Just wave it at the monster and he will die.” Though Eragon was very surprised, he kept every word said by the old woman. Before she left, she told him, “Remember Eragon, to burn the wand afterwards, or the monster will return back and kill you.”
**- wand = thin stick of wood used by magicians**
